My deepest gratitude for Q'Orianka Kilcher

Thanks to this blog, I have met wonderful people over emails, telephone and even in person. But I must say actress Q'Orianka Kilcher is one of the most amazing people in that list. Since 2005 when I heard about her movie "The New World" I've been following her career and her appearances in different events, and my admiration for her is sincere especially because she came to this life only 19 years ago but she is such a wise person.

The Bagua genocide occurred in Peru last Friday, has allowed for us to meet through the Internet and coordinate efforts to help our brothers and sisters in Peru. Humbly, I have learned from her, her mother Saskia and their group of wonderful friends in Los Angeles. I just wish more people like them were out there in this planet.

For those of you who don't know Q'Orianka well, I want you to see this video where she dedicates her recent Young Hollywood Award to AIDESEP (Amazong rights organization) Indigenous leader Alberto Pizango -who is right now hidden at the Embassy of Nicaragua in Lima- and our brothers and sisters who sacrificed their lives in Bagua, Peru.

In this video, she actually cries and when most media in Peru were criminalizing Alberto Pizango, she dedicated her award to such brave leader. Q'Orianka wasn't born in Peru but her father was, and she is deeply committed to her Indigenous roots and to the important task that her generation has inherited from ours: to save the mother land from the mess we have made.

Thanks. I just want to tell Q'Orianka and her lovely mother that I wish you the best in your trip to Peru, where you might have arrived today already. I am sure your work will make a huge impact especially among young Peruvians, and that you will be an example that everyone of us can make a big difference in the lives of people and in saving our planet for the ones coming after we leave this life.
