TITI GUIULFO
One of the best and most renowned Peruvian fashion designers, Titi Guiulfo has over 30 years of experience in the fashion industry, working with American and European brands. She is based in Lima but her creations have included the collaboration of textile artists from the Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica and Puno regions in the Andes of Peru.
The Titi Guiulfo collection rescues world famous techniques and materials used by the Indigenous peoples of Peru for thousands of years. The rich Alpaca fiber and Peruvian Pima cotton materials are used along with the Andean loom weaving, embroidery, natural dyeing and knitting techniques to create pieces that are both uniquely reminiscent of the past but contemporary and stylish at the same time.
Along with organizing countless fashion shows and entrepreneur ventures, Titi Guiulfo has also made a difference in the lives of the Andean artists that work with her, through local community development projects that benefit from her fashion business.

TORO MATA
Toro Mata is a traditional Afro Peruvian song compiled by Carlos Caitro Soto, and made famous by Afro Cuban singer Celia Cruz.
But Toro Mata is also what may be the best Peruvian art store in Washington, DC, Toro Mata “features a classic selection of furnishings, decorating accessories and artwork imported directly from the master artisans of Peru. Each item is handcrafted using only natural materials and methods that have been passed down through generations.” As its website mentions.
What I like about Toro Mata is that they import Peruvian stuff directly, respecting the creations of their suppliers in Peru. The store features two levels, it’s beautiful in many ways, very well designed and located, in the heat of Adams Morgan, the historic district of NW DC.
