It was a great evening with the Hurtado family -a wonderful group of true artists and innovators- who shared their beautiful songs and dances, and offered the hundreds of attendees with a beautiful display of our Native and Afro Peruvian music and dances.
At the end of the concert which lasted about 3 hours, people left with smiles in their faces and I was extremely happy to have witnessed such a special event.
This was a successful event organized by the Smithsonian Institution NMAI with the support of the Smithsonian Latino Center.
The next morning, we met Kuyayky again for a special reception at Toro Mata, a lovely Peruvian art store located in Adams Morgan, where empanadas, Inka Cola and chicha morada (purple corn drink) were enjoyed along music and a lively conversation, before the Peruvian Americans departed for Miami.
Here are some photos taken by Marilyn
from the 'Latinos y Orgullosos de Serlo' Meetup, at the NMAI concert.
