Kuyayky to perform at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC

Kuyayky is one of my favorite groups of Andean music, and they are finally coming to perform in Washington, DC and what a better place to showcase their wonderful art than the National Museum of the American Indian.

KUYAYKY

Kuyayky which means"to love" in the Quechua language, is a group of five brothers born in the Mantaro Valley, located more than 11000 feet above sea level, in the central Andes of Peru. These young musicians are based now in Miami, and they have created a music known worldwide that is incomparably traditional and innovative. Their production "Xauxa: Return to the Top" is inspired by the musical essence of the Native people of Peru.

Kuyayky understands the importance of cultural awareness as a way to maintain and foster the social, political, cultural and economic development of humanity. Through their music, Kuyayky works to contribute to the understanding of cultural diversity as a key to human development and peace.

Residing in the US since 1993, Kuyayky has maintained strong connections with Peru and worked diligently to bring attention not just to their culture through concerts and workshops in the US and abroad but has also devoted themselves to causes including education and earthquake recovery in their homeland.

For that purpose they have created the Kuyayky Foundation, a non-governmental and non-profit organization working to promote social and economic development de los Andes through research and promotion of the Andean culture.

In their performances, Kuyayky leads us to revisit 700 years of history of Indigenous civilizations as the Xauxa and the Pachacamac, as well as music of the Tawantinsuyu (Inca) civilization and the Hispanic colony in a spectacular celebration of history, music and dances of the Andes.
